About Driftform

Specialty coffee roaster based in Great Barrington, Massachusetts. Founded 2019. We roast about 1,400 lbs/week across direct-trade origins and a few seasonal blends.

How we work

We source through a small set of long-running producer relationships in Ethiopia, Colombia, Guatemala, Kenya, and Brazil — typically 12-month forward-bought, paid 25–40% above C-market price, with full traceability down to the wet mill or cooperative. The producers we buy from are mostly people we've visited in person at least once, and several we've worked with for 3+ years.

Coffee is roasted weekly on a small batch roaster (Loring S15) and shipped within 48 hours of the roast date. Roast date is printed on every bag. We don't ship coffee older than 14 days.

Why subscriptions

Most coffee businesses get pulled toward subscriptions because they smooth revenue and reduce inventory friction. Both true for us. But the more important reason: coffee is best in the first 3–4 weeks after roast, and the only way to get coffee to customers consistently inside that window is to ship on a regular cadence rather than at random.

Our subscriptions are skip-anytime and pause-anytime. We don't run minimum commitments. Roughly 40% of our subscription base is on biweekly cadence; 60% on weekly. The 1-bag-per-month coffee subscription is, in our opinion, slightly worse for the coffee — it's right at the edge of where the bag starts losing brightness.
